Welcome to Dude Write! We are thrilled to have you here, whether you are a Writer Dude, a Blogger Dude, a Reader Dude or a Fanatic of good writing. If you've stumbled upon us via a link and wondering what you've gotten yourself into, our Mission Statement should explain it all.
Being a dude is tough.
There's so much to worry about: what team to cheer for, what kind of cologne to wear, what type of girl to chase. Et cetera, et cetera.
But writing like a dude -- that's really tough. Deciding between writing about picking up dog poop or about falling in love, fighting the battle of being a macho-man and being a sappy sucker is sometimes harder than shooting an ostrich in the head.
And even tougher than being a dude writer is being a dude blogger. Aside from the actual writing of posts, you have to worry about so many other things: how many people are reading your stuff, how many people follow you on Twitter, how many people you follow on Twitter, how often you are able to post, worrying about what your mother will think about what you wrote, worrying about what your potential employer will think about what your wrote twenty years from now. Et cetera, et cetera.
Trust us: we know.
Things have been quite busy for us Dude Writers in the past few weeks. Even your beloved editors have slacked a bit, not having time or forgetting to submit entries. It is a crappy feeling, not unlike a hangover, but much more closely relating to the feelings of death.
The kind of feeling that even cupcakes can't cure.
So thanks, guys. Thanks for showing up with some awesome writing, even when we have been lax.
Thanks for being our cupcakes.
....so much for being manly.
And with that, we shall reveal the results.
Our inductee into the Members Only Diamond Club is newcomer Sam Edge for his touching post, "Death and Cupcakes," which deals with tragedy, a child's wisdom, and best of all: sugary cupcakes!
Congrats, and head on over to the Diamond Club to link up!
9 types of people I unfollow on Twitter," in which he offers an accurate portrayal of the types of people on Twitter and tells us why he doesn't follow them anymore.
There are three Chairman's Choice awards this week.
Ken, the winner two weeks ago, said, "This week, my selection for Chairman's choice vote is for WilyGuy's post, FCUK What is That Smell. I've had a thought for some time now, that I as well, would like to upgrade my scent. While I can tolerate the abundant smells at the cologne counter, it doesn't take me very long to have them all smell the same. Obviously I'm going to have to do some homework, because I'm not entirely certain just what shade mauve or taupe is. It's obvious that I had better bring my wife along to help me choose. She is, after all, the one who's going to have to put up with me when I'm irresistible. Thanks for the Head's up, Scott."
Youngman Brown said, "My choice this week is Brett for his post "Real Life Angry Birds." Upon opening the post, I expected to be reading something about Brett creating some sort of life-sized replica of the popular game, but found something very very different. I now have something new to add to my bucket list, and it does not bode well for the ostrich species."
WilyGuy said, "I chose Sam's Edge brilliant piece Death and Cupcakes. In the face of a raw emotional moment, the simplicity of cupcake baking becomes remarkably complex, then ends with the licking of beaters. It doesn't get any better. Great Job."
Congratulations to all of the new Man Card winners this week. If you didn't get yours this week, come back again on Thursday and try again!
