18 and Wanted

Welcome to Dude Write!

We are thrilled to have you here, whether you are a Writer Dude, a Blogger Dude, a Reader Dude or a Fanatic of good writing. If you've stumbled upon us via a link and wondering what you've gotten yourself into, our Mission Statement should explain it all.

Ah, 18... there was a time that meant a lot more.  Here in the states, many of the older among us got our first legal taste of alcohol. Selective Service was another joy that boys turning to men could look forward to at 18.

But 18, for many not in the Jewish faith, is the beginning of manhood.  It's time to stop playing dress up, a time to stop worshiping heroes, a time to stop clowning around.  We mostly stop using the toilet for pranks and try to use it for bad beer disposal.  But we put away childish things and strap on our big boy pants.

With that miraculous age comes new and not so wonderful revelations.  We learn that women can hurt us, sometimes in subtle ways, sometimes just by leaving us to our own devices.  We realize that we are screwed either way.  With adulthood comes important decisions, like where to go on vacation, what to eat, and what to do while we are there. Though we'll probably hold off growing hair in our ears, years of neglect and sugary soda will make visits to the dentist an adventure.

We confirm what we knew all along that our parents were as full of it as we thought. Some of our seemingly best decisions turn out to be actually good decisions.

And with that, we shall reveal the results.

There's a new Diamond in the deck this week, causing a shift in the tides. Our latest inductee into the Diamond Club is Chiz Chat with his satirical look at Clowning Around. Chiz entertained us all with his "job" as a clown while not really entertaining his "clients."  Great work on this one Chiz!

Congrats, and head on over to the Diamond Club to link up!

This week, the leaderboard was knocked down a peg as Daniel Nest pulled down our Platinum Man Card
with his post Garfield vs. Dexter, 4 Game Ideas. Knowing Daniel, he will be thrilled to be in the top 3 and will be back next week with another post destined for the top.

And this week's Gold Man Card goes to Kevin of Who Woulda Thought for his post Idiot Abroad where he compares his situations with those of the show of the same name. We were all spellbound and a little bit scared of what he would do in the name of humor.

There are three Chairman's Choice awards this week.  Daniel from Nest Expressed was our last Diamond Club entrant and as such gets a Chairman's Choice vote this week...

Daniel said: "I have to give my Chairman's Choice this week to Chiz-Chat for the laugh out loud "Clowning Around" piece. Note: I said I "have to", because it's not really a choice. There's no way I'm running the risk of Chiz showing up at my doorstep in a clown suit with a gun."

Your editors also had an opinion this week.

WilyGuy said, "While many of the entries tickled my funny bone in ways that should never be shared, I had to go with DJ's Everyone Poops. From the first sip, I could sense the anticipation of what was happening. The runs that he has to make to try to get to his apartment were a blast...to read, of course."

Michael Walker said, "This week, my Chairman's goes to Brett for his post on "Culinary Adventures," for reminding me of a whole host of food I will never try. Aside from that, it was a great piece of writing."

In the category of the "Color Commentator" Man Card, which is awarded to someone who we spotted making a particularly exceptional comment on another dude's post.

This week's Man Card goes to Ken for his comment on Nest Expressed.

He said: "Those are some really interesting game choices. I might actually respond to an invitation to one of those. As it is, I keep getting those damned farmville requests. Why the HELL would I want to spend my leisure time tending to 15 various farms when farming is my job? That being said, I keep getting requests from my wife to play, finally finish the deck. Or the newest one, renovate the bathroom over the winter."

Congratulations to all of the new Man Card winners this week. If you didn't get yours this week, come back again on Thursday and try again!
